Music Minister
Gloria Roberts Morgan has served as our Minister of Music for much of the time she and her family has lived in Collinsville. She was born in Mississippi, lived in Memphis and moved to Nashville, Tennessee when she was in junior high. Raised by Christian parents, Gloria accepted Christ at age eight. As a teen she served in her church in youth and adult choirs and as church librarian.
Gloria has a degree in Music Education from Tennessee Tech. While there, she directed the Baptist Student Union Choir. She was also a Southern Baptist summer missionary for resort missions in Indiana through the Home Mission Board.
In 1970, she married chemical engineer John Morgan (“the boy next door”), and they moved to Birmingham where John worked for U.S. Steel. Gloria was a soloist with the church choir at Dawson Memorial Baptist and directed the UAB Baptist Student Union Choir.
Moving to Louisville, Kentucky for John’s seminary training, Gloria served as Minister of Music at Howard Park Christian Church. In 1977, when they moved to Collinsville, she became active in the Collinsville Baptist Church choir where she eventually became Minister of Music. Through the years, hundreds of children, youth and adults have been part of choral groups at Collinsville Baptist, assisted by the many volunteers that have helped make those groups possible.
Gloria has also been involved with local activities and organizations such as directing Community Choirs and serving in the CLC (Christian Ladies of Collinsville). However, she would say her most rewarding ministries have been as wife to her pastor husband, John, and mother to their sons, John, Mark, Matthew and Joseph. John and Gloria have been married forty eight years and are now blessed with seven grandchildren.
